BTA & BOTOX

BOTOX

What is Botox?

BOTOX, more correctly called botulinum toxin A (BTA), has been used safely in esthetics for years. There are several trade names for botulinum toxin A marketed by various companies (e.g., BOTOX, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin, Daxxify). Each of them are effective but there are some minor differences that are good to know. As we continuously make facial expressions, our facial muscles pull and fold the overlying skin, creating visible creases. These are referred to as dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles that appear during expression). Botox works by temporarily halting the muscle contractions responsible for horizontal forehead lines, vertical worry lines between the eyebrows (11’s), and lateral canthal lines (Crow’s Feet). Once the movement of the muscles is suspended, the appearance of the resulting lines and wrinkles is reduced. This leaves you with smoother, more youthful-looking skin. We can also affect your smile by improving a gummy smile or softening a frown.

RESULTS

Results may vary, depending on the particular BTA used, but expect to see results 3-7 days after your procedure but maximum results typically are present two weeks after treatment. So be sure to give us notice well before the day of that big event! Your skin will be smoother and

wrinkle-free after your BTA treatment! These results will begin to fade typically around 3-4 months, however, you can safely repeat BTA treatment three to four times a year to maintain the look you desire. BTA also prevents new lines from occurring and with continued use, your face will begin to “forget” to wrinkle and often require fewer treatments over time as the muscles become weaker from not functioning.

Does it hurt?

Pain from the injections is minimal. The needle used to inject is very little.

How much does BTA cost?

Some doctors charge by the area, and some charge by the unit. At our office, we charge by the unit to ensure you get exactly what you need and only pay for what you need. Also, different BTA products cost different amounts and require more or less units dependent on the type of BTA injected. The cost is $9-12 per unit depending on the BTA product used.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

How to prepare for your BTA treatment
Aftercare for BTA

There is virtually no aftercare required and you can drive yourself to and from the appointment. Should any minor, temporary bruising occur, you may cover it with makeup and continue with your daily schedule.

What not to do after a BTA? Don't get a facial or head massage for a full 24 hours after fillers. You should also avoid rubbing your face in the area that was treated. Don't lie down for at least

1 hour after receiving fillers in your face. Don't go into any saunas, hot tubs, or tanning booths for at least 4 hours.

Why should I go to a dentist for facial esthetics (Botox and Fillers)?

Dentists are uniquely qualified to administer fillers and injections due to their advanced training in oral and facial muscles, from your forehead down to your neck. The head and neck is the area that dentists work exclusively with and have had extensive training in the anatomy of this area. They understand the movement of the facial muscles and the areas that are most likely to need fillers. Understanding the facial spaces and where patients typically sag or lose fat allows for proper placement of filler. When receiving Botox, it is imperative to understand the location and pull of the muscles in order to get the maximum results without unwanted side effects. Dentists are not only licensed medical professionals, but their extensive knowledge of muscles and facial structures allows them to safely deliver Botox and filler injections.
